Excellent article about 1950's plastic uke maker, Mario Maccaferri

The Jackson Sun interviews Maria Maccferri, wife of plastic uke kingpin Mario Maccaferri. ''Arthur Godfrey held up our ukulele on his show and said now your child can play a ukulele for only $5.95. The next day our phone wouldn't stop ringing,'' said Maria, 84, in an interview from her home in New York. ''Mario tried to pay him, but he would accept nothing. He said he wanted to stand there with a clear conscience and recommend the ukulele. It's so different today.'' Link
