What is ukulele dumber than a discussion about which strings? Try how are they wound on the pegs. This delightful photo of 20’s California Girls clearly shows that at the time of major ukulele consciousness, folks, at least the folks pictured here, would choose one way (1st and 4th wound from “outside” towards center) or the other (1st and 4th wound for “inside" towards edge of head).
