UK Uke Shortage

Apparently the 3rd Wave has finally crossed the pond in a big way, and, inspired by the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, and fueled by YouTube, Britain is besieged with a dearth of plangent playthings. Link

I think the story is only partly right. Many schools in the UK are adding ukulele to their curriculum. Each school will be buying between 30-60 cheap chinese ukuleles to deliver the lessons. They are no doubt keen to do so as teaching a musical instrument to a whole class of primary children will become statutory from September; the ukulele is the cheapest (and best) way to do this.
