The New Champions of the Ukulele

In which the Guardian informs us that Dent May is "chief" among "a clutch of artists" who are rescuing the ukulele from cringeworthiness. Humph. But Woodshed gets a nice plug, as do Amanda Palmer, Arms, Rachel Unthank, Taylor Swift, Ratatat, and Phosphorescent. Jens Lekman, not so much. Beardo, indeed.

Well, it's happening. The young are telling the not-so-young to move over, get out of the way. This, and similar recent articles, are the opening shots in the war for the heart & soul of Ukulele World. While some of us not-so-young types might never have come to the instrument if Dent May were the model presented to us later in life, he, and others like him, are the forces bringing in the new young players, with their new, young attitudes, and their new, young music & styles. The old-guard can hang on for a while, but the writing's on the wall for all to see, it's only a matter of time. Even Bach was considered old-fashioned by his children.

It's an honor to be sandwich between those two. Even if it is just two sentences. And even if Lekman does seem to be a rather large douchebag. I've put up my whole interview here if anyone's interested.
